Basic guide

Watch how to create a panel and customize your CRUD operations in under five minutes:

Creating a panel

To create a panel, copy the connection URL from your database provider and paste it into Flashboard. Pick a namespace if your database uses one (if you're not sure, just use "public"). Choose a name for your panel, then confirm your password so we can encrypt your credentials.

That's it. Your data appears instantly, organized into tabs for each table.

Navigating your panel

Each tab represents a table from your database. You can reorder tabs by dragging them. When you open a tab, you'll see the default list view that Flashboard created for you. Pagination, search, and filters are already built in.

Customizing the table view

Want to change what appears in your list? Go to Build → Table settings. From there you can:

  • Reorder columns by dragging
  • Remove fields you don't need
  • Set the default sort order

Viewing item details

Click the eye icon next to any row to see all its fields and associations. If your tables have foreign keys, you can navigate directly to related records. Click a linked item and you'll jump straight to it.

Customizing the detail view

Go to Build → Detail settings to control what shows up in the detail view. You can:

  • Show or hide specific fields
  • Reorder how fields appear
  • Toggle associations on or off

Creating new items

By default, you can create new items from any tab. To customize this, go to Build → New item settings. You can disable creation entirely, or choose exactly which fields appear in the form.

Need to duplicate an existing item? Click the duplicate icon and you'll get a pre-filled form with that item's data.

Editing items

Most fields are editable by default. To change this, go to Build → Edit item settings. You can turn off editing completely, or limit it to specific fields. If you only want users to toggle a "highlighted" flag, for example, you can allow just that field.

Deleting items

The delete icon appears by default on each row. If you want to prevent deletions, go to Build and toggle off "Allow deleting". The icon disappears and users can no longer delete anything from that tab.

Managing tabs

Tab names are inferred from your database, but you can rename them to whatever makes sense for your team. Click on a tab to edit it, change the name, or delete it entirely. You can also create new tabs from any table in your database.
